Iraq War
U.S. soldiers and the American people have achieved an amazing victory for freedom. Saddam Hussein was a tyrannical dictator that needed to be removed. We have achieved our objective and provided funding and support to rebuild the Iraqi government. However, due to the rapid decrease in value of the U.S. dollar and critical needs in the U.S. infrastructure, we can no longer continue costly large-scale operations in Iraq.
Economy
With soaring fuel prices, the burst of the housing bubble, predatory loan scandal, and the rapid decline of the U.S. dollar’s value, the U.S. economy is heading in the direction of a recession. The American people are extremely resilient and have strong initiative; we can bounce back from this economic downturn.
Congressional Term Length/Limits
The American public is frustrated with the ineffectiveness of congress. The U.S. House of Representatives has a 2 year term length. This is a waste of taxpayer money and means that Congress spends 1 year of their 2 year term campaigning and not focusing on issues critical to the American people. The United States needs 4-year Term lenth for US Representatives and term limits so that congress is not filled with career politicians that have large amounts of political debt.
Immigration is a critical issue With nearly 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States. The shear number of illegal immigrants and the immensity of the associated problems nessecitate that something be done. The key to this situation is to break it into managable steps. The first being the creation of a guest worker program to insure US agricultural labor supply needs. Please see Regional/Local Issue section for more information.

- United States needs long-term economic planning such as tax incentives for corporations and individuals.
- Tax incentives for insourcing jobs, so that U.S. jobs are not sent to India and China.
- Tax incentives for alternative fuels, to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Klamath and Trinity Rivers
The unprecedented water usage agreement between Indian tribes, farmers, fishermen, conservation groups and government agencies is a great achievement. Government funding for Klamath River restoration is a great first step. However, this just touches the edge of what is needed in terms of the billions of dollars need in financial support. Another crucial factor is including PacifiCorp (Pacific Power) in the Klamath Basin agreement and addressing the energy needs. More government support needs to be provided for this project.
Agricultural Labor Supply
In terms of agricultural labor supply, a guest worker program needs to be enacted such that farmers can continue production and provide food at reasonable prices for consumers in the first district. A guest worker program would provide taxation of Mexican migrant workers to fund increased border security and pay for the program administration. If Mexican migrant workers have a safe and secure way of crossing the border for temporary work, it will decrease the need for illegal border crossings. This is a great first step towards dealing with illegal immigration while maintaining the agricultural labor supply needs of American farmers.

- Including Pacificorp (Pacific Power) in the agreement
- Removal of 2 dams, while addressing energy needs of 1.6 million people.
- Upgraded Salmon ladders in remaining two dams.
- Government funding for removal of dams and silt.

- Guest Worker Permits for 5-7 million Mexican migrant workers for US labor needs.
- Guest Workers will only be allowed to work in the US for 6-9 months per year.
- Taxable income from Guest Workers will pay for program administration and additional border security.
- Guest Worker Program will reduce dangerous and illegal border crossings as it provides a legal means for workers to return to their families in Mexico.
